Horrible mess - had to remove and start all over
This is supposed to be a sizing product for metal leaf. It does provide a tacky surface for the metal leaf - but rolls up in sticky snot-like balls when you try to burnish or rub the leaf down onto the surface. Horrible failure, remove, start over.
AWFUL
I tend to let my gold leaf set overnight. I let it set, went to remove the access gold leaf the next morning and it all just came off leaving a sticky mess on my commissioned art work. For being so sticky…. it doesnt actually work.
Worked great!
Not sure what the others did but worked great for me. Way better than Mod Podge.
Find another adhesive
I have tried to gild a 1/2" x 18" section of a picture frame four separate times with two different bottles of this adhesive. The adhesive and gild eventually balled up and came off every time, even trying various drying times. The chemistry is off.
Awful
Well I wish I would have seen these reviews before doing a big project so I would have saved time. This stuff didn’t dry evenly and when I applied my topcoat it was like the reactivated and got tacky causing the leaf to ball up in spots.
Great product
Despite all of these bad reviews it worked great for me…shook the bottle, put adhesive on let dry maybe 10 min and gold leaf stuck well! Left in for five minute and used a brush to brush everything away! Worked great
Absolutely terrible
I’m glad it’s not just me that had a hard time with this adhesive. This was my 1st time trying gold leaf & I followed the directions. When I brushed off the excess gold leaf, it balled up and came off leaving exposed sticky spots.
Perfect (beacon: add manufacture date on bottle!)
Started a project. Couldn't find my can of size. Happy to have found a great local alt. to ordering shellac flakes & making my own size. TIPS: use as little as possible & pay attention to room humidity. Poor reviews may be from poor tech. or exp products.
Easy to use for first timer
My first time metal leafing and this was the simplest thing ever. I applied the glue, goes on white, dried clear in about 15 min. applied the leaf and GENTLY brushed the excess away. Don't Burnish, that is too rough and not necessary. Great Product!
The problem
Noticed something reading these reviews, and standing the the store. There's an "adhesive" and a "sealer". Usually with regular size, it's an all in one application. The bottles are exact similar, down to label, except 1 word. Just a thought.
