Blue Chambray Flip Flop
- Supplies
- • 1 Pair of Flip Flops
- • 1 Skein Yarn Bee™ Wild Child Eyelash Yarn, Coordinating Color
- • Super Glue
1. Push the end of the yarn down through the back buttonhole of the flip-flop and pull about 2" to the bottom. Wrap the yarn completely around the button. Place a small amount of super glue in the buttonhole to hold the yarn securely.
2. On the top, begin wrapping the yarn around the strap by making a chain of loops. To do this, bring a loop of yarn under the strap. Holding the loop in place, bring the rest of the yarn back over the top of the strap. Bring another loop through the first loop and pull first loop tight. Take the yarn back under the strap pulling another loop through the second loop. Pull the second loop tight, keeping the yarn as snug as possible. The closer the yarn is wrapped, the fuzzier they become. Continue making loops and pulling tight across strap.
3. Cut the yarn and push the end into the buttonhole and glue in place.
4. Repeat for the other shoe.

3. Apply a thin line of E-6000 around the top edge on the side of the flip-flop. Starting at the inside edge, begin wrapping the cord around the shoe, pressing it into the glue.

- • 1 Pair – Lavender Flip Flops
- • 1 Roll – ProvoCraft® ½” Terrifically Tacky Tape
- • 2 Skeins – DMC® Metallic Embroidery Floss – Gold
- • 1 Pkg. – The Jewelry Shoppe® 4mm Beads – Gold Plated
- • 1 Pkg. – The Beadery® 9x6mm Oat Bead – Cool Tone Mix
- • 3 Pkg. – The Beadery® Assorted Medium Beads VP – Amethyst
- • E-6000® Adhesive
- • 6” Piece of Button Thread
- • Large Needle
- • Pliers
The contents of each bead mix are unique and each package will vary. Please use the photographed items as inspiration for creating your own jewelry designs.
Apply Tacky Tape to the top and underneath sides of each strap, leaving on the tape liner.
Thread needle with one end of the floss. Work the needle down through one of the back buttonholes on the flip flops. Use the pliers to pull the needle all the way through. Remove needle, leaving about 6” of floss hanging through the buttonhole.
Remove wrapper from around floss. Peel liner from tape on this side of the strap. Slide floss to the underneath side of the strap. Bring floss to the side of the strap and begin wrapping. Keep floss tight as you go around, pressing floss onto tape (see photo 1). Wrap up the strap about 2 ¼”.
Thread a lavender oat bead onto floss in the following manner: Lay a piece of button thread out flat. Place 6” of the floss end across button thread. Bring both ends of button thread together and slide through the bead. Continue pulling ends through bead until floss appears. Lay thread aside and run bead down floss to strap. Before wrapping on, make sure strap underneath is fully covered. Floss may have to be overlapped here. Finish wrapping on bead.
Continue wrapping floss along the strap about ¼”. Add a blue oat bead as before. Repeat this step, adding another lavender bead. Repeat again, adding a blue oat bead. When finished, wrap floss another 3/8”.
Choose a “pillow” bead from the amethyst bead mix, and one 4mm gold bead. Thread beads onto floss. Run thread back down through “pillow” bead (see photo 2). Work the beads and floss until the “pillow” bead is centered on the strap and the gold bead is pulled tightly against it. Always make sure strap is fully covered with floss underneath beads. Continue wrapping floss ½”. Choose a large bead and thread onto floss. Wrap floss ½” and repeat step #5. Wrap another ½” and thread on a different large bead. Wrap floss to the toe post. Press floss onto tape. Remove tape liner from the rest of the strap. Cross floss over to the other side of toe post and wrap once. Repeat Step #5. Cross the floss over to the other side of the toe post and back again. Measure the distance wrapped from the last large bead to the “V” of the toe post and wrap this distance on the second side of strap. Wrap beads and floss on second side, mirror imaging the first side. Thread floss through buttonhole. Cut floss to 3” in length. Bend flip flop forward so the buttonholes pull away from the buttons. Wrap the floss ends around buttons. Use needle to apply adhesive under the button onto the floss. Release flip flop. Wipe off excess adhesive. Starburst: Thread remaining floss through a lavender oat bead and one gold bead, leaving a 3” floss tail. Thread floss back down through oat bead, pulling gold bead tightly against it. Thread a blue oat bead and a gold bead, bringing both close to the lavender bead. Thread through blue oat bead again. Repeat until you have four lavender and four blue oat beads threaded on floss. Wrap beads around the center bead and tie a knot with floss ends. Trim floss. Repeat for the other flip flop.
