Code Adam
Safety Tips
Visitors to Hobby Lobby and Mardel might notice a "Code Adam" decal near the entrance at their local store. Hobby Lobby and Mardel stores are posting these blue and white Code Adam decals to remind our visitors that a child safety program has been effected in this store.

The Code Adam program is named in memory of 6-year-old Adam Walsh, whose abduction from a Florida shopping mall and murder in 1981 brought the horror of child abduction to the national consciousness.

Code Adam is a special alert issued over the public address system when a customer reports a missing child in a Hobby Lobby or Mardel store. A brief description of the child is provided to all associates, who immediately stop their normal work to look for the child. Store associates will also monitor all exits to ensure that the child does not leave the store.

Within 10 minutes, if the child is not found or if the child is seen accompanied by someone other than a parent or guardian, store personnel will notify the local police department.

This program has been successfully implemented by Wal-Mart and SAM's Club stores and has been responsible for stopping an attempted abduction in a Wal-Mart in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Hobby Lobby and Mardel feel that implementing a similar program is worthwhile for the safety and peace of mind of our customers.
