You may have just gotten a bad batch because I think this is what I used and it worked great for me. I got mine in the store and am going to get some more so I will check to see if they carry a different brand in the store than online or what.

The closest Hobby Lobby is an hours drive. So I needed a crackle medium for a project I'm working on. So this is what they had. Needless to say it didn't work.

For those saying it doesn’t work you mustn’t have been doing something right I’ve used this for years and always was satisfied with the results. The thicker the layer of medium you put down the larger the crackle effect.

Anyone saying it doesn’t work didnt do It right. You have to put this on first thin for fine cracks thick for large cracks let it dry for a while the longer the better result. Then use one way strokes with an acrylic paint the less strokes the better!
Works like it is supposed to.
First time user. I am pleased with the results. I follow the instructions. Three layers: 1st- Base coat… let dry for at least an hour: 2- Crackle medium… let dry for at least an hour: 3- Top Coat …thin paint for thin cracks, thick paint for thicker ones.
Use it correctly and it works perfect!!
Plenty of YouTube videos on how to use this paint. But the simple directions in the description are accurate too. I’ve been using this for a couple of years and it works like a charm!
FolkArt Crackle Medium
After painting a base layer, let that dry completely. Then paint the crackle medium on VERY THICK!! Let that dry completely overnight if needed Paint your contrasting color over and just wait. It does work!!
