DIY Back-to-School Sign
Gearing up for a new school year? Here’s a project to commemorate your first day back! This wood sign is quick to make, and you can reuse it for other life events for years to come—just create enough letter pieces for a variety of year-round phrases.

Project Instructions

Step 1
Supplies: metal frame wall decor, shrink plastic, washi tape, wood glue gun, basswood strips and sheets, square dowel, black alphabet stickers, white craft acrylic paint, scissors, craft knife, wood carving tool, cutting mat, paintbrushes, ruler

Step 2
Cut shrink plastic into rectangles.

Step 3
Add washi tape to edges of plastic to create frame.

Step 4
Place letter stickers in washi tape frame.

Step 5
Cut square dowels to fit across wood sign.

Step 6
Glue basswood strips to basswood sheets to create ledges for letters then glue dowels to top front of ledges to create lip.

Step 7
Paint ledges white.

Step 8
Glue ledges to wood wall decor.

Step 9
Apply washi tape to frame as desired.
