Smells like gas or Turpintine
The first one I bought was awesome! Went back to store to buy second one And had to take it back. Smells of gasoline. So I ordered one online and got it today. And it smells like gas too! It's supposed to be natural. Will return to store.
This jute works perfectly for macrame plant hangers. I bought the spool at the store and didn't notice a gasoline smell. I'm very pleased with this product.
update previous 5 star review
I've used this jute in a few projects and want to update my review. The cord is very uneven, goes from thicker to thinner, and is spliced is many places. It's ok for a plant hanger, but you should use better quality jute for other projects.
It had been decades….the 70's, since I'd done any macrame pot hangers. They went out of style but, like everything else, it has come full circle. With what I had bought in the 70's to use, I'd say this is comparable. A little uneven but ok for hangers.
I ran out of jute rope from my stash and this worked fine. I didn't have the issues of unevenness. My roll was great.
I used to make Macrame furniture now make kitty hammocks. I would be very disappointed with the results using this cord for furniture, but want kitties to wrangle with it so this will work for my purposes.
Irregularities throughout - be warned
I've purchased and used 5 bolts of this so far in the last 4 months. Everyone has had multi splices, poor splices, thin/thick areas….. obviously not so poor as to keep me from buying all I have bought. Not suitable for fine wall-type art work. IMHO
Love the imperfections
I am very happy with this cord and I like the imperfections. I use this to make rope used for decorations and such. It looks very good and is strong. I have had cord brake in the process of all the twisting. I have not found cord I like better.
We have a home based macrame biz where I make large 3 to 5 ft jute plant hangers. This cord gives a professional appearance, heavy duty and long lasting for custmers.
Got ripped off
I bought a natural jute 900ft, 6PLY for $14.99 at hobby lobby for my project. I measured my 2x3 rug using 40 12ft long strands. My calculations where 480ft. The math is wrong. Double the price for less. Rip off! Do some math people! It’s not 900ft! Lame!
